Looking for a way to volunteer your time and make a difference in your community? Our community organization is actively seeking dedicated and passionate individuals to assist us as listening helpline responders.

Responsibilities

  • Answering calls
  • Active listening
  • Provide information and referrals
  • Respect call confidentiality
  • Undergo initial training dedicated to respondents
  • Participate in ongoing training sessions and/or meetings with other respondents

Required features

  • Be a trans, non-binary or gender-diverse person and be comfortable with your gender identity
  • Intend to offer at least 6 hours of availability per week
  • Intend to volunteer for a period of at least 6 months
  • Have a good level of oral communication in French
  • Have a functional level of oral communication in English
  • Secondary school diploma (DES) or equivalent
  • Be 20 years of age or older (18 years of age or older for those studying specifically in a field of intervention)
  • No criminal record in connection with the duties of a volunteer working with vulnerable people

Desired characteristics

  • Good communication skills (verbal interpersonal skills)
  • Open-minded attitude towards values and beliefs different from own
  • Ability and interest in working as part of a team
  • Benevolence and empathy
  • Training and/or experience in active listening is an asset
