Performance | Reading: Salon de thé

“Salon de thé” is a staged reading of an original text by Gabriel.le Lepage that explores the concept of passing and the tensions it creates within marginalized communities. Through intimate, lucid, and direct language, the work addresses the mechanisms of gaze, erasure, and the desire for recognition, as well as the pitfalls that social legibility norms can create, even within communities themselves marked by exclusion.

Gabriel.le Lepage
A graduate in directing from the Conservatoire d'art dramatique de Québec, Gabriel.le Lepage is a trans multidisciplinary artist whose work explores the pretences of our society in order to bring an inclusive,
accessible, and unfiltered theatrical vision to the stage. During her training, she directed her very first production titled “Esprit de famille” and founded her theater company, Porte débarrée, in addition to
undertaking numerous collaborations and internships with female creators who inspire her, such as Maryse Lapierre and Sophie Cadieux.

This year, she is assisting director Nathalie Séguin with the theatrical production of Jorie Pedneault’s Je nous ai promis un fiasco. Additionally, she is co-writing and co-directing with artist Gabriel Sénéchal a children’s play titled Les Sorcières de Saint-Léon, a work that explores gender biases through the eyes of
children. A staged reading will be presented next June at the Festival Carrefour as part of the Les Chantiers/Constructions artistiques residency.
