The Trans Archives of Quebec: A Project of Memory and Transmission
This digital timeline, launched to mark the 45th anniversary of Aide aux Trans du Québec, first offers an overview of the lived realities of trans and gender-diverse people in Quebec across different periods, organized by decade. It also traces the history of the organization and its founder, highlighting the journeys, struggles, and contributions that have shaped our communities.
A second phase of work, currently underway, will enrich this content by showcasing major legal, social, and medical advancements, while also integrating an expanded selection from the organization’s archival collection — a unique collection in Quebec comprising more than 48,000 documents.
Ultimately, this initiative aims to become a resource for reference, knowledge-sharing, and awareness, helping to preserve and amplify the history of trans and gender-diverse people in Quebec.

Archives related to trans and queer communities contain significant gaps, as some have been erased over time or insufficiently preserved. This timeline is based on extensive research aimed at reconstructing these histories and lived experiences.
